Common causes of sinking and heaving
Water from downspouts or a broken irrigation line can wash out the bedding sand under a section of pavers.
Roots from nearby oaks and other large trees push pavers up into uneven humps over the years.
Edges without a solid restraint can creep outward, opening joints and letting the border sag.
How releveling is usually done
The crew lifts the affected pavers, corrects the base or bedding layer, compacts it, and lays the original bricks back in their pattern.
Broken pieces are swapped for matching stock when it is still available, though new pavers may not match faded ones exactly at first.
Joints are then refilled and the area is ready for sealing once it is clean and dry.
Fix the cause, not just the dip
If a gutter or sprinkler head caused the washout, redirecting that water is what keeps the repair from failing again.
Root problems may call for an arborist's advice before anyone cuts roots near a tree you want to keep.
Questions
Should repairs happen before or after sealing?
Before. Resetting pavers disturbs joint sand and the surface, so repairs, cleaning and re-sanding come first and sealer goes on last.
Do you have extra pavers that match mine?
We do not supply materials. The company you hire can try to source a match, and any spare pavers left from your original install are worth keeping.
